Researching non-fiction can be a challenge, an ordeal, an adventure, or an entry into a labyrinth of rabbit holes from which there is no return. Or all of the above.
This session focuses on research, not writing. We’ll examine how to winnow down a concept into a topic into a straight-out non-fiction work or narrative non-fiction book, article, novel, or other form. The emphasis will be on finding sources, vetting them for accuracy, discovering connections, keeping your focus when tantalizing tangents beckon you to stray from your topic. I’ll use real-world examples from my works to illustrate the techniques and results.
