In a discussion of select poems followed by a generative workshop, we’ll examine several strategies for ending poems: summative conclusion, the open door, the image, the declarative flag, the surprise, the questioning uncertainty, and non-ending. Poems by Pulitzer winners Jericho Brown and Phillip Levine, Nobel Laurette Louise Glück, and from acclaimed writers Maggie Smith, Chen Chen, and recent Md. Poet Laureate Grace Cavalieri, shall provide good guides.  Bring two copies of a draft poem (or flash fiction) that has bright spots, weak spots, and which you don't mind changing, and let's refresh our endings together.  Our focus on the genre of ending makes this workshop relevant to any writer.  If time allows, the presentation and generative workshop may be followed by an opportunity to share or Q&A.
