Writing & Selling Your TV Show or Feature Film – with Laura Zam

Have you thought about writing for television or film, but are not sure where to begin? Or maybe you have an existing script you’d like to revise and then sell. Whether you’re thinking of adapting your own work, or working with a new story, this workshop has you covered. You’re learn basics of character development on screen (why TV and film treat this differently), a structure you can adapt for different Hollywood projects, and how to master the visual component of screenwriting. We’ll also touch upon how to sell your completed script. If Hollywood is calling to you, this workshop is for you!

LAURA ZAM is an award-winning playwright, performer, speaker, author, and Certified Holistic Sex Educator whose work has been featured in many media outlets, including The Washington Post, InStyle, NPR, Bustle, Yahoo News, and others. Her one-person comedy about sexual healing was a hit at the New York International Fringe Festival and United Solo Off-Broadway, leading to her memoir THE PLEASURE PLAN. Currently being shopped around as a television series, her teleplay was a semi-finalist in the Los Angeles International Film Festival.  Often mixing pathos and hilarity in refreshing ways, Laura’s essays have been featured in The New York Times, Salon, HuffPost and other publications. She is a founding podcaster on Fireside, a media platform created by Mark Cuban, where she hosted a lively, weekly show called Sexual Healing Central. For the past twenty years, Laura has used writing as a healing modality for those who’ve experienced sexual violation and related trauma. She’s taught at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, The Omega Institute, Seeds of Peace, and the DC Rape Crisis Center. She frequently presents on college campuses on responsible/skillful navigation of pleasure. Awards include a Soros Foundation grant, first place in the Amiri Baraka Playwriting Contest, and five Artist Fellowships from the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities. Laura has a Bachelor’s in Theater from Brooklyn College and an MFA in Playwriting from Brown University.
