Forms of Japanese Poetry Workshop with David Oates

All ESWA members are invited to register for the workshop, even if you've never tried your hand at these Japanese styles of writing poetry, or even if you don't know what they are!

In school, we were taught that haiku is a form--this many syllables, this many lines. However, in the last few decades. English-language haiku has grown into a genre that focuses more on content and writing style and less on syllable count. Haiku mostly focus on nature, while the related form of short, Japanese-inspired senryu is more focused on human nature. While the workshop will focus on haiku and senryu, Oates will touch on some related forms for further study as well as provide resources to connect with good haiku from committed writers.

Please note: Due to a scheduling conflict, this session takes place on Friday, September 25th.
