The Crossroads Contest Reading

In collaboration with Salisbury University Gallery Downtown, ESWA invites you to a special reading from the finalists of the Crossroads Writing Contest on 3rd Friday in Downtown Salisbury at 212 West Main Street from 6:30-8:00 PM.  Finalists of the contest, judged by Salisbury Poet Laureate, Nancy Mitchell will be asked to read their work.  Light refreshments will be available.

Ekphrastic Poetry & Flash Writing Contest:

Entries due July 10th, 2019

Eastern Shore poets and writers are invited to view artist Carl Goldhagen's work anytime from 6/21/19-7/10/19 at the Salisbury Wicomico Arts Gallery Downtown, and write a response poem or flash fiction piece about one of his works. A special reading will take place the evening of Friday, July 19th from 7-9 PM, where finalists will be invited to read their Goldhagen inspired piece. A prize of $100.00 will be given to a top poem or flash fiction piece selected by Salisbury Poet Laureate, Nancy Mitchell. This event is a collaboration between Salisbury Wicomico Art Galleries and Eastern Shore Writers Association. The winning poem will be displayed in the gallery.

To submit to the contest:

Submit 1-3 poems (no more than 5 total pages), or 1 flash fiction story (300-500 words) as a MS Word Document or PDF to eswathecrossroads@gmail.com. Please remove all identifying information from the document prior to sending, and include your contact information (name, address, telephone number and email address) in the body of your email. Please also include a brief biography of no more than 75 words written in 3rd person. Deadline for entry: July 10, 2019. There is no fee to enter. Submissions that do not follow the guidelines will not be eligible for entry.


About contest judge, Nancy Mitchell:

Nancy Mitchell, a Pushcart Prize 2012 recipient, is the author of The Near Surround, Grief Hut, and The Out-of-Body Shop and co-editor of Plume Interviews I. Her poems have appeared in Poetry Daily, Agni, Green Mountains Review, Washington Square Review and others. Mitchell teaches at Salisbury University, Maryland and is Associate Editor of Special Features for Plume Poetry.
